Franklin Fireworks...

Don’t Miss “the Rocket’s Red Glare”
Fireworks In Franklin!

Too many people have the wrong idea about July 4! They think that to enjoy an awesome
fireworks show, they need to pile the family in the car and drive
north. Well, it isn’t true!
This Independence day, grab your lawn chairs or blankets and make a plan to be right
here in Franklin. Save that gas money. Avoid the headaches of wasted time in miles of gridlocked
traffic. Make plans with your friends and neighbors in your own community. We’ll see
YOU at the Indiana Masonic Home on July 4!

Festivity Schedule
6:00 Food Vendors open on the Masonic Home grounds. Also at 6 pm, encourage the
kids to participate in the family parade, with decorated strollers, bikes and wagons.

There’s also a bounce house (don’t forget your socks), and kids’ carnival games.

At 7 pm, your little road runner (age 12 and under) can compete for
the title of “Fastest Kid In Town.”

At 7:45 pm, say hello to Amazon John and a fun variety of Silly Safari creatures.

Great music begins one hour later, followed by a few words by Mayor Fred Paris and
then, at 10:00pm, a 30-minute fireworks display!

New City Logo...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Franklin to redesign city logo
Residents encouraged to submit ideas for design

Franklin, IN – The city of Franklin is currently seeking citizen suggestions for a new city seal.
Krista Linke, planning director and president of Discover Downtown Franklin, feels that a newer, more distinct insignia will better communicate key messages about the community.
“The city would benefit by updating the logo to a more recognizable image that is representative of the kind of community we live in,” she said.
“Basically we are asking people to tell us what makes them feel at home here in Franklin, what things they think are good that Franklin has to offer,” Zach Burton, director of communications for Mayor Fred Paris said.
The current logo, a profile of Benjamin Franklin, has been used for many years and came about as a result of a similar community input event. While the design has served the city well, officials feel it is time to develop something more recognizable and specific to the community.
“For some people it might be one of the historic buildings, for others it might be more conceptual, and that’s great too,” he said.
“Our goal is to take something people treasure about the city and represent it in our design,” he said.
Residents of Franklin are asked to submit ideas electronically by emailing Zach Burton at zburton@franklin-in.gov, or by calling the mayor’s office at 736-3602 through Friday June 26.

The Absent-Minded Professor is a 1961 Walt Disney Pictures film based on the short story A Situation of Gravity, by Samuel W. Taylor. The film was reissued to theaters in 1967 and 1975, and released to video in 1981, 1986, and 1992. It was a huge success at the box-office, and has been remade twice since - once as a version for television starring Harry Anderson of TV's Night Court as the Professor, and once more as a theatrical film entitled Flubber, with Robin Williams as the Professor. Neither remake was as successful or is as highly regarded as the original, but the Robin Williams version was still a considerable success. Both remakes were made in color.
The original 1961 film, shot in black-and-white, was one of the first Disney films to be colorized, for the 1986 video release, and along with The Shaggy Dog (1959) and Son of Flubber, is one of Disney's few black-and-white films made after the silent film era.
